I returned to Lavenham today and parked the car near St Peter and St Paul the beautiful church on the hill which is visable for miles away as you approach this village. At the church I found signs for a 3.5 mile circular walk which follows in part a dismantled railway line which apparently used to run to Long Melford and on to Bury St Edmunds. This is the former great eastern railway line closed in the early 1960's and is now a nature reserve.
This is an enjoyable place to walk or run although it was somewaht wet and in places under the railway bridge under water so if you plan to walk it take boots.
