A small collection of running medals that I have kept from races over the years. I think I said in a previous blog post that given the choice I much prefer to receive a medal than a t shirt on finishing a race.
I recently had a big clear out of race t shirts which seem to be more popular with race organisers to give out as prizes in recent years. Is that because runners generally prefer a t shirt, or is it cheaper as a prize or better for sponsors to have their company logo in big letters on a t shirt. I have to say the general quality of the race t shirts given as prizes isn't great to actually run in. These tend not to be your technical t shirt more your cotton variety.
For those interested if you hover over the photo there is a note indicating the race and date when you view this in Flickr
What about you do you prefer a medal or a t shirt or perhaps something entirely different? Perhaps nothing and cheaper race entries?

Flickr UK Running Photos

I am pleased to see there are over 3,000 photos on the UK Running Flickr Photo Group. I am encouraging anyone to join and add photos related to any running clubs in the UK.
If you don't know flickr in short this is a free photosharing site for all your photos amd I have started a group for UK Runners.
There are over a 1000 running clubs in England, Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland. This group is about promoting your club by posting your photos here from events and competitions. This can be any event from a track meeting, cross country race, road race, trail or fell run. In fact any event in the UK .
Club running vest colours can date back many years and have a proud history. If you know a bit about your club and its history feel free to add some background with your photos.
With over 1000 clubs in the UK be the first to send in photos from your local clubs. The link here suggests there are 1039 clubs in the UK.
There are currently 37 members of the group but this growing slowly. You are welcome to join if you have an interest in runing in the UK. Any questions drop me an e-mail

Running in Stratford on Avon

This week I have been working in Stratford on Avon which as many of you will know is a huge tourism draw it being the birthplace of one William Shakespeare.
On the first day with time being short I decided to use the gym facilities at the Holiday Inn. Luckily the hotel had a swimming pool and gym and I took full advantage. I did a triathlon not in the usual order as I started with bike doing 11.1 km in 30 minutes, followed by the treadmill doing 4.20 miles in 35 minutes and then a casual swim where I did no more than probably 100 metres. It was really enjoyable having all of the equipment to hand and not something I have done for a long time as I don't belong to a gym. The workout measurements on the bike and treadmill are useful to know and motivational in that sense for measuring progress.

However that said give me the outdoors anytime. It was hot inside the gym and looking at euro pumped up electro r&b music is a real turn off for me. I noted several others in the gym had obviously come prepared and had ipods eyephones to overcome this.
The Holiday Inn sits on the River Avon Canal and the photo above is a view from the garden.
I have now uploaded all the photos I took at the recent Bury 5 race at Nowton Park Bury St Edmunds, you can view them on my link to flickr here or on the side panel flickr tool.
