I cam of the A134 at Cockfield Hall and parked up near the primary school. The weather was once again very warm and sunny with a bright blue sky for the last day of April.
I set past the Cockfield War Memorial and ran over the railway bridge with a fine view of the old Cockfield Railway Station.
Up hill the road takes you to the A1141 where I turned right. There is a redundant windmill with no sails near Earl's Hall Farm. I continued to run as there was a convenient pavement beside the road for some distance.
On this road there is a 14th century public house called the Three Horseshoes.
I turned around when the pavement ran out but decided to take a pathway I had previously seen near Earls Hal Farm. This lead close to another of the 2nd world war pill boxes before entering a wooded area with typically enclosed trees. Immediately I imagined this must be a former railway track and this was confirmed when I began to see tell tale signs of old railway artefact's metal posts and typical fencing.
I ran until I came out to a road which I later worked out to be Perrydown Lane. I then retraced my steps and ran the length of the former railway track in the opposite direction never seeing a soul.
I returned back on to the A1141 and returned into Cockfield and visited St Peters Church to end my run in the sprawling but beautiful parish of Cockfield.

I drove out to the village of Gt Livermere a village about 6 miles North West of Bury St Edmunds. The weather continues to be dry and sunny and we haven't had decent rain since I think February. April is likely to be the hottest on record and it seems every year we keep having weather records broken.
According to Ekwall the meaning of Gt Livermere's name is the lake where rush or iris grew. There is a large memorial to those who fell in the 1st world war which was erected in 1920.
I parked close to the church called St Peter and commenced my run setting of past the large memorial stone around the village before heading past the church.
Gt Livermere is dominated by the large Livermere Park. I entered through an impressive gate house with large pillars. Once in the park it appears to be something of a wildlife sanctuary for birdlife. Every where there is geese not only on the large lake called Broad Waters but all over the estate. The former house of the estate built in 1700 was demolished in the 1920's.
There is evidence of a former glorious estate but from what I can see now this is limited to the gatehouse entrances.
There is a right of way path which takes you through the park emerging at the village of Ampton, where interestingly Ampton House is going strong in Ampton Park.
After a quick run through Ampton I decided to return to Gt Livermere. Looking into the distance at the end of Broad Lake stands a church marked as St Peters Church on the OS map. I decided to set out to visit this.
However this church seems to be on private land and there was no right of way I could see to take me to this church. So I ran back into Gt Livermere before taking a very straight road to the nearby village of Troston.
I visited St Mary's Church an old Wesleyan church (now a chiropodist!) and the old school before returning back again to Gt Livermere to end my run.

Here are some photos of one of my regular routes which starts near the Water Tower in Bury St Edmunds. The distance is only approximate. Set off down Park Road before turning left left into Cadogan Road and down the hill.
At the junction turn right into Flemying Road which soon becomes Glastonbury Road.
This is a good up hill section to reach Horringer School with the Glad Abbot Pub and one of the better fish and chip shops in Bury.
Some nights particularly on a Friday it can be difficult to run past the fish shop without feeling jealous of those folks arriving for a takeaway haddock and chips.
There is a short down hill section which takes you into Horringer Road where you turn left. There is another long downhill section down to the Spread Eagle and Stamford Court where I turn right up hill along Vinery Road. When you reach the top of the hill the road becomes Hardwick Lane and takes you past the Hospital and Hardwick Heath.
Turn left into Cullum Road and through the water meadows where there seems to be a further piece of development I believe called Saxon Gate. Bit by bit housing seems to be eating into this area of water meadows which is sad. I run along Cullum Road which at this time of day is always busy with cars struggling to exit the town centre.
Up Parkway South turning left at the mini roundabout into Kings Road and then right down Chalk Road. At the bottom of the hill turn left into Risbygate Street and left again up Westley Road returning to the start.
